How do you deal with violence at your agency?

Every human service organization faces the threat of behavioral outbursts and physical violence from their clientele. This violence represents a serious threat to the health and safety of staff, clients, residents and patients. All agencies must have a system that successfully prevents most such incidents, and quickly diminishes outbursts when they do occur.

Does your current crisis intervention system teach:
--takedowns?
--manual, physical and mechanical restraining?
--physical holds that last more than 3-5 seconds?
--a "self defense" attitude?

THEN YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR SYSTEM!
You need to move from a "self-defense" system to one that quickly prevents, de-escalates, and neutralizes all situations.

What Is A Non-Aversive Philosophy and Technique?
The FOCUS PREVNT system is meant to be just that -- a way to prevent and diminsh violence. It's not designed to be a "self-defense" system to be used against the individuals and clients supported and served by the agency. It's purpose is to quickly de-esclate potential or actual violence and return to active supports, active programming or the plan of care -- with no one (staff or clients) getting hurt.

PREVNT is a system of preventing, diminishing, and redirecting violence in human service organizations with a proven track record. PREVNT stands for Positive Redirection and Elimination of Violence through Nonaversive Technology.

PREVNT was developed over 15 years ago by assembling the best techniques and tactics available under the supervision of Behavior Specialist Jim Rice, and from his work with the late Lee Graber. It has been used all over the country in those years. PREVNT takes the best from Behavioral Technology, Humanist Approaches, and physical redirection technique to present an organized system that provides a crisis intervention system or augments existing systems.

PREVNT is designed to fit in seamlessly with existing active programming, active supports, behavior support systems and patient care plans.

PREVNT training is divided into distinct teaching modules, each building upon the previous one, to provide a coherent, value-based approach of proven tactics and second to none physical neutralization technology which all staff will remember and instantly implement in all appropriate situations:
--Module 1: Values and Attitudes
--Module 2: Prevention tactics, proxemics and contingent interacting
--Module 3: FOCUS 4 Step Redirection Technology
--Module 3: PREVNT Physically Nonaversive Technique

How PREVNT can be used by your agency:
*PREVNT can be used to augment any existing crisis intervention system you use, and even improve upon it.

*PREVNT can be used by a particular division or department within your agency, or

*PREVNT can be used as your central crisis interventions system throughout your agency, and be seamlessly integrated into all individual program plans, person-centered plans and behavior support strategies.

Installing the PREVNT System at your agency:
PREVNT training begins with the teaching and certification of PREVNT agency trainers selected from agency staff, and trained by Certified National PREVNT Instructors . Next, all relevant, designated staff in the agency are trained and certified by both the newly certified agency PREVNT Trainers and the Certified National PREVNT Instructors from FOCUS Seminars and Consulting. The final step is to integrate PREVNT seamlessly into the active supports, programming and all relevant behavioral, psychological, and psychiatric plans at the agency. After the initial training and certification, the Agency's PREVNT Certification is good for one year, with two required one-day Quality Improvement visits by PREVNT Consultants over that time.
